Stuart Jones, who had fought back from his frustrations on Friday had mixed feelings: "If it hadn’t been for the SupeRally I would never have been able to come back and fight on Saturday, but then if it hadn’t been for the SupeRally then Ryan would not have finished! Very confusing!"
Indeed David Higgins, who lost nearly 7 minutes with two punctures on Friday, was the only person in the top three who did not utilise the SupeRally at all.
Courtesy of the SupeRally Gwyndaf Evans, the Welsh Wizard, won the 2006 Mitsubishi Evo Challenge guaranteeing the British public the chance to see the highly rated Welshman in action in the 2007 Tesco 99 Octane MSA British Rally Championship.
In the other classes Matt Beebe endured an exciting weekend of spins and minor problems to take R3 honours once more and thus continued his trait of championship wins – this being his third title in three years.
James Wozencroft put in a brilliant performance in the ageing Suzuki Ignis to take both class and S1600 championship honours as well as managing to beat some of the JWRC regulars in the process, whilst young Conrad Rautenbach took the BRC Junior title in his first season of competing on these shores.
So after six rounds all across the United Kingdom the 2006 Tesco 99 Octane British Rally Championship has finally come to an end, and must surely be remembered not just for Mark Higgins winning his third championship but also for the close nature of the new look championship and surely 2007, with the new rules allowing S2000 cars to run alongside the N4 cars, will be just as entertaining?
