Q&A: Wyn Humphreys - EXCLUSIVE.

Wednesday, 15th August 2007

Wyn Humphreys speaks exclusively to Crash.net Radio's Rob Wilkins.

WH:
We have had a good base set-up from him. He has done some testing, which I haven’t been able to do. We have just gone with that base set-up and worked on from there. When we went to the Manx he had a base set-up and we just ran on that all through the rally. We found it was a really good and there was no need to change it.

Crash.net:
You started the year with a fourth place finish on the Pirelli and more recently took third on the Rally Isle of Man. Your first podium in the BRC – that must have been very pleasing?

WH:
It was a good result. We are lacking a bit on power compared to the Mitsubishis and I don’t think I will be able to keep up with them, although Mark may be a bit of a surprise on the Ulster. But it was fantastic to finish third. Fourth was our goal for the end of the year - and we had that on our first rally and now three rallies in we have finished third. We don’t know what is going to happen on the next few rallies!

Crash.net:
What’s been the key to your run – is it all due to consistency?

WH:
Yeah, I think it is more consistency than speed. We are not here to win this year. We are just there to get the mileage because obviously I have never done any of the rallies before. The Pirelli was new and so was the Jim Clark, although I did do the Manx last year. The Ulster will be new too, so most of it is uncharted territory for me.

Crash.net:
Are you looking forward to the remaining three events – the Ulster Rally, Rally Yorkshire and the Rally GB?

WH:
Yeah, I am quite looking forward to the Ulster. I have had some in car stuff from Mark and Gwyndaf [Evans] from last year to look at and so that has given me some information before I get there. But obviously it is not the same looking at it on a TV screen, as it is doing the rally.

Crash.net:
Rally GB is obviously a round of the WRC and counts for double points in the BRC too – does that make it extra special / extra hard?

WH:
It is a bit more special as well as it is the only rally in Wales and that is where I come from. That is a good thing for us. We will have a bit more support down here than we do anywhere else. The fact it is a double points scoring round will help us if we can keep the consistency because somebody is going to drop out - although you don’t want to win because of that.
