Q&A: Rob Swann - EXCLUSIVE [updated].

Monday, 27th August 2007

Rob Swann speaks exclusively to Crash.net Radio's Rob Wilkins...

Crash.net:
Is the Rally GB a bit extra special, especially as it is the final round of the WRC too?

RS:
It always feels like that. You have got the top drivers’ in the world there and it gives you a bit of a boost. It feels a bit more like an endurance event, although you do tend to pick your pace up a little bit as well because of the nature of the event.

Crash.net:
Do you rise to the occasion then?

RS:
Yeah, I think you do. You get carried along with all the hype that goes with the event. It is a great event to do and a good one to finish on.

Crash.net:
How difficult is it to compete against the works Mitsubishis of Guy Wilks and Gwyndaf Evans, as well as people like Mark and David Higgins?

RS:
We can only use them as a good guide really and try and see how close we can get to them. Obviously they are probably doing more testing and development than we are. Also time in the car is very important to improve your pace and so it is good to see how close we can get to them. But it is good to have them there because it boosts the whole championship as well.

Crash.net:
Do you enjoy the challenge of competing against them?

RS:
Yeah, I do. As I say, it is a good goal to set yourself to see how close you can get to them and if you ever get the opportunity to beat them on a stage that is rewarding. I think we beat Mark on a couple of stages at the beginning of the year on the Pirelli, which was a real big boost. That is always good to do.

Crash.net:
What sort of result are you aiming for this season overall in the standings?

RS:
We would like to try and get into the top three if possible. That has got to be the goal. Obviously to do that we need reliability and we need to carry on at the pace that we are going at.

Crash.net:
Can you tell us anything yet about your plans for 2008?
