Gwyndaf Evans has been a major name in the world of rallying for more than two decades and this season he is back in a 'works' team following his title success in the 2006 Mitsubishi Evo Challenge.
Crash.net Radio's Rob Wilkins caught up with the Mitsubishi pilot recently at the Castle Combe Rallyday to chat about his season to date in the Tesco 99 Octane MSA British Rally Championship and his plans for the future. Is his career near the end? Read on to find out...
Crash.net:
Gwyndaf, are you enjoying the Rallyday?
Gwyndaf Evans:
Absolutely, it is a beautiful day. I have got a big treat today as I am behind the wheel of Mitsubishi World Rally Car and apparently I am the last official driver that will ever drive the Mitsubishi works car. It is a big honour. I have had a couple of laps in it already and I am absolutely beaming.
Crash.net:
You said you are going to be the last official driver, can you explain why that is for our readers/listeners?
GE:
Apparently the doors are closing on Friday. I think the team are hoping there will be some way of re-starting again in the future maybe with a backer, but I don’t think there is anything official on that score. On that basis then I will be the last official driver in the works car.
Crash.net:
Are you enjoying driving a WRC car again, because of course in the BRC you are using a Group N car, as you have to under the regulations there?
GE:
It is such a pleasure - the cars are so relatively easy to be honest to drive. The Group N cars I find are more difficult to drive. But like every other competition car when you drive it ten tenths I am sure it would be different and I haven’t attempted to go ten tenths today yet!

Do you enjoy events like this?
