Q&A: Gwyndaf Evans - EXCLUSIVE.

Wednesday, 26th September 2007

Gwyndaf Evans speaks exclusively to Crash.net Radio’s Rob Wilkins.

GE:
It is difficult for me to say, because obviously I don’t know under what instructions and if he has been held back at all this year or not to do the job for the team. If that is the case then they are probably more qualified than me to say. Certainly if you just look at the results you would have to question it, because there are only a couple of events that he has managed to lead from pure pace. No question that he is very, very good but we will see. Lets hope so.

Crash.net:
How big a blow is it for the WRC to lose Gronholm?

GE:
It is a massive blow because I think everybody loves Marcus as a person. He is down to earth, he is a fighter, he is competitive, he is fast, he is spectacular, he is everything that the WRC and rallying is about I think.

Crash.net:
Colin McRae was tragically killed last weekend, is there anything you would like to say on that?

GE:
I still can’t believe it. Everyday since the sad news I keep losing myself and thinking ‘this can’t be true’. After all the accidents he has had over the years you tend to think he was indispensable and now we have lost him. It is just unbelievable and to lose his son as well that is just so, so sad. He will never be forgotten will he? In my eyes and so many others he was the best. In his day there was nobody to catch him and there was nobody like him to watch. I just loved his attitude as well because he always made me smile. He was his own person, he didn’t care, he was there for the love of driving and I will hold him in such great light and with such happy memories.

Crash.net:
Final question, returning to what you said earlier about retiring, will you hang up your helmet next year?

GE:
I am not going to say that in case a really exciting drive comes up, but it is a possibility.
