Rob Swann is currently third in the 2007 Tesco 99 Octane MSA British Rally Championship.
Crash.net Radio caught up with the Englishman recently at the Castle Combe Rallyday show in the UK and got his take on that event and his thoughts ahead of the next round in the BRC, the International Rally Yorkshire, which takes place on October 6...
Crash.net:
Rob, what have you made of the Rallyday so far?
Rob Swann:
I have enjoyed it. I think it has been really well organised and it has given us a chance to take out a few sponsors and potential sponsors maybe for next year, which is a good thing. We have enjoyed going on the circuit because it is quite a different discipline for us. You have to find a different line, more of a touring car racing line and so that has been quite good fun. We have been on the rally stage a few times too and I am happier there.
Crash.net:
Is this your first year at the Rallyday?
RS:
It is. This is the first year we have attended with the car as a competitor. I came here a number of years ago, as a spectator to have a look, but it seems to have grown a lot since then. I think it is great day and good for the spectators to be able to get close to everybody.
Crash.net:
Obviously this is the first year the Rallyday has had an official tie up with the Tesco 99 Octane MSA British Rally Championship. Do you think that is good for the BRC and the event?
RS:
I do. It is a good opportunity for us to invite our sponsors along and to show people what we actually do and for them to get close up to the rally car. Also the opportunity to take them for a ride is priceless really because we don’t get that chance often. We barely get to see and speak to people on the rallies because it is so busy. It is a great then for that and it is really beneficial. I would like to see more things like it.
Crash.net:
We spoke to you before the Ulster Rally, how are things looking now ahead of the final two events?
RS:
The Ulster went really well for us. We kept it neat, tidy and clean - and in the middle of the road. We went to the Ulster fifth in the championship and we came away third and we couldn’t really ask for any more than that. We are now going to go back on gravel for the Trackrod which is our preferred surface. All being well - and with a little bit of luck, because you always need a little bit of luck, no matter how good the car and driver is, we can try and keep it in the top three.
