The 2007 British Rally Championship has had a few surprises sprung, none the least was when Wyn Humphries led the championship outright, in only his first year in the series, after round three. Although Wyn’s Stobart team-mate Mark Higgins has now overhauled him in the overall standings the young Welshman still lies second, albeit only just ahead of fellow Subaru pilot Rob Swann, who is enjoying his best season to date. Both of these pilots will be looking for strong runs this weekend.
In the smaller classes defending champion Matt Beebe will be looking to put the Ulster Rally behind him. After blowing an engine whilst dominating the class in Ulster, Matt has had a race against time to rebuild the engine on his MG ZR160. A good run on this rally for the past two years gives him confidence as he hopes to take the fight to the works Suzuki’s and Citroen C2R2s, whilst Honda Civic pilot Visa Mikkola will just be hoping to see the finish after a troubled season so far.
The screaming Super 1600 class is supported by Stefan Davis in his vivid Ford Puma and Darren Gass in his Citroen C2. Current category leader Conrad Rautenbach is missing this round due to clashing commitments on Rally Catalunya.
With over 100 stage miles in one day the competition will be fierce from the word go and with the rally taking place in such classic R.A.C. stages of old as Gale Rigg, Langdale and Dalby there will be plenty of action on the stages all day long.
The first car departs the ceremonial start in Pickering at 9 am and is expected back after 6pm the same evening.
