Elfyn Evans, son of 1996 British Rally champion, Gwyndaf will compete on the Rally GB next week.
Crash.net Radio caught up with the 18-year-old at the pre-Wales Rally GB press day earlier this month and spoke to him about that event and his season in the Fiesta Sporting Trophy UK series...
Crash.net:
Elfyn, this is your first season in ‘top’ level rallying isn’t it?
Elfyn Evans:
Yeah, it has been my first season in the Fiestas and there was a lot of good competition there. We drove a Micra last year in the Formula 1000 Gravel Championship, which went all right, but this is the first proper season for us
Crash.net:
How happy have you been with your season?
EE:
Quite happy. We set out with the objective to finish most of the rounds and to learn the car and the events. I think we did that pretty well, except for one incident we had on the Pirelli. But otherwise it has gone well.
Crash.net:
How have your results come on during the year?
EE:
We have built it up. We were quite shocked to get a sixth place finish on the first round. Obviously we had a bit of a set back on the Pirelli but then it has been podiums and fourths throughout the season. We have got to a level which we find comfortable at our own pace without having to worry about anyone else. We have just delivered that all season and it seems to have worked.
Crash.net:
What do you think of the Fiesta as a car to drive?
EE:
It is a phenomenal car. It has obviously been developed a lot before we had it. It has done a year in the championship in 2006 and so by the time we got our hands on one and have been driving it this season, it has been great. We have had no issues with it at all.
Crash.net:
What are your aims and ambitions now for Rally GB and how excited are you to be doing a WRC event?
