Q&A: James Wozencroft - EXCLUSIVE.

Saturday, 24th November 2007

James Wozencroft speaks exclusively to Crash.net Radio...

Dealer Team Suzuki's James Wozencroft was at the pre-Wales Rally GB press day earlier this month. Crash.net Radio caught up with the Suzuki Swift man to get his thoughts ahead of the final round in the Tesco 99 Octane MSA British Rally Championship and lots, lots more...

Crash.net:
James, you have had a busy year doing the BRC and the Irish Tarmac Championship. Things have gone well haven't they?

James Wozencroft:
Yeah, we have had a great year actually. The Irish championship has finished now and we were second in class. Unfortunately a few problems earlier in the year meant we couldn't win it. But now we are lying second in the [R2] class going into GB, so it is all to fight for.

Crash.net:
How do you plan to approach Rally GB?

JW:
It is a very difficult one. It is such a long event it will be hard on the car. We have got to think about getting the car to the finish because if we don't finish the rally then we won't win the championship. But at the same time we have got to push pretty hard to make sure we keep in front of the guys we are against. It is a tough one really.

Crash.net:
Of course Rally GB is a double points scoring event for the runners in the BRC. What are you thoughts on that? Does it affect your tactics or is it something you see as an opportunity this year?

JW:
It does affect your tactics because it is two individual rallies now. Leg 1 is sort of its own event. You have to approach the first day as a short rally and then the last two days as a longer event. It does completely change your approach.

Crash.net:
Has it been difficult trying to juggle the Irish and British championships?

JW:
Not really. They have all fitted in quite nicely and they were quite well spaced out. There were no clashes. It has been good and it has been good to keep a hand in on tarmac ready for the British events on asphalt as well.

Crash.net:
What have you thought of the BRC this year? Should there be more events - as there is only really six, although GB does count as two?

JW:
It is six events, but they are all very good events. I think the quality of the events is high. If you put any more rounds in it might bring the costs up and some competitors wouldn't be able to compete. It is quite a good balance at the moment and I enjoy all of the events. We have had a good year in the BRC.
