Sunday morning saw Mark Higgins consolidating his lead, and the main focus was turned onto the fight for second in the British Championship. Jones took chunks of time out of David Higgins all morning, bringing the difference down to 8 seconds with only the 12.8 miles of Leithholm 2 left to run. It was game on. But there was to be a true sting in the tail in this stage. Run in reverse to 2007 and featuring some of the biggest and fastest crests in the whole championship, Leithholm is a true test of man and machinery. Jones was on a charge but then lost power steering. However David Higgins lost even more time with transmission problems and Stuart was promoted to second overall on his first ever tarmac rally with the car. Mark meanwhile won the stage to take the overall victory by two and a half minutes.
James Wozencroft kept his nose clean to come home fourth overall, by far his best ever BRC result, with Jonnie Greer fifth and Wyn Humphreys sixth. Adam Gould continued his strong run on Sunday to bring his Clio home in seventh, taking the two wheel drive trophy and the Pirelli Star drive award as well.
Karl and Guy Simmons survived total brake failure at the end of a top gear straight to take eighth with George Thomas ninth and the best Citroen C2R2.
George had fought long and hard fight with Martin McCormack all weekend but the battle was eventually decided when McCormack lost a wheel on Sunday, allowing Thomas to cruise to the finish.
Round one Citroen winner Andrew Hockridge suffered cruel luck when a dislodged cattle grid punched a hole in his fuel tank on the opening stage of the rally, forcing him to SupeRally. Andrew returned on Sunday to set a string of top three times that would have been good enough for him to finish second in class, but this honour actually went to Matt Cotton who made up for his round one indiscretion when he rolled his little C2 at high speed.
