The Suzuki Swift Cup contenders had a host of problems with numerous drivers damaging gearboxes, including round one winner and local hero Gordon ‘Gogsie’ Nichol who eventually recovered to take fourth. Mark Gamble was on fine form and despite putting his Swift off the road more than once he returned to the finish triumphant.
Other stories included Revolution Wheels team leader, Rob Swann. Rob was making his debut in a new Subaru N14 but lost time with a puncture on the opening stage. Worse was to come however and to round off his weekend he suffered a fifth gear roll on the final stage, extensively damaging his car. He eventually finished down in 14th position.
After two rounds of the 2008 Tesco 99 Octane MSA British Rally Championship David Higgins now tops the leaderboard, albeit by a mere 1 point from Stuart Jones. Mark Higgins and Guy Wilks languish down in sixth position with 1 win and 1 DNF each. Next up is Mark’s home rally, the Rally Isle of Man and after an embarrassing driving error when he slid off the road last year, he will want to uphold local honours.
Before that, the BRC goes all glitzy with the Chatsworth Rally Show on June 7-8. With each British Championship crew that attends receiving 5 bonus points most teams are expected to put in an appearance.
