As everyone paused to draw breath, the final overall positions were confirmed: Andrew Nesbitt (winner of class A8); Jonny Milner; Eamonn Boland; Robert Woodside (looking happier than he's done all season); Tim McNulty; Maurice Gass; David Higgins (a deserving winner of Group N and the Production Cup after another faultless drive); Justin Dale (bouncing back as 1600 category winner after his synchronised swimming antics on the Scottish); Alistair Ginley (second in Group N); Barry Johnson; and Martin Sansom, the delighted winner of class K16.
Without doubt the 2002
Jim Clark Memorial Rally met everyone's expectations and, once again, showed how immensely competitive, exciting and popular closed-road tarmac rallying is. Colin Pagan, clerk of the course Jonathan Lord and the Berwick and District Motor Club / Border Ecosse Car Club teams thoroughly deserve our thanks for putting on such a first-class event. Thanks also to the Toshiba Irish Tarmac Championship boys for showing us how tarmac rallying should be done.
Next month (1-3 August) the PBRC moves to the Isle of Man for more fast and furious road rallying on the Manx International. No doubt Jonny Milner (still leading the Championship by nine points from Justin Dale) is already plotting his revenge against the Irish, and no doubt also this time he'll be paying less attention to his instruments.
