Reigning BRC champion, Jonny Milner clinched victory on round three of the Kwik Fit Pirelli British Rally Championship yesterday [Saturday] at the RSAC Scottish Rally, the Team Dynamics and Pirelli backed driver becoming the first driver in history to win the event three times in a row.
It was a close-run contest though, and Milner won by only 9.3 seconds, the battle with David Higgins going down to the wire, the former eventually coming out top, as Higgins failed to make up the lost time from a puncture.
"We had to push so hard to get this win," reflected Milner. "David was trying hard everywhere and we were mindful that a small mistake from us was going to be the difference between first and second."
Higgins meanwhile was comfortable in second, as Barry Johnson was almost 4 minutes back in third, in his Subaru Impreza.
"We had a heavy landing over a jump, soon after realised we had a rear flat with more that 6 miles to go, we continued to drive with the puncture which cost us around thirty seconds," explained Higgins. "Then on the next stage trying hard to make up time we had a 5th gear spin at one corner, which also cost around fifteen seconds."
Higgins though remains in the lead of the overall BRC drivers' championship, with 54 points, Johnson is next best on 42, while Matthew Wilson, who came sixth overall, is third on 41, and Milner fourth on 40.
Suzuki's Guy Wilks was the winner of the Super 1600 category [fourth overall], adding to his success at the Acropolis Rally last weekend, where he won the Junior class.
He was followed home by Leon Pesticcio and Jonnie Wigmore, seventh and ninth overall respectively.
"The last ten days have been very tiring, but have given me such big rewards with victories in both Scotland and Greece," beamed Wilks, "I can't wait for the next rally."
In the Production Cup Sebastian Ling took the win, while the Ladies Cup honours went to Loran Smith, 14th overall, and Chris Davies took the victory in the Fiat Stilo Cup.
33 cars were classified at the finish
The next event is the
Jim Clark Memorial Rally on July 2/3.
