Wrexham will play host to the inaugural Formula Rally - a new rally championship that is heralding a new era for British rallying.
Formula Rally, which is backed by the world's leading motor manufacturers introduces a new concept to British rallying that is hoped will boost the sport in the UK making it more accessible to spectators and competitors alike. The rally takes place on Saturday 10th March with stages covering North and mid-Wales.
The day's rallying will kick off in Wrexham moving southwards through Newtown and the World Championship stages of Sweet Lamb and Hafren Forest finishing back in Wrexham. Rallying is one of Britain's top spectator sports and this exciting new formula is expected to attract thousands of visitors from across the UK.
The rally has been created to provide promising young drivers with the perfect platform to prove, enhance and hone their driving skills, with the view to graduating to the full World Rally Championship alongside top drivers such as
Colin McRae and Richard Burns.
Formula Rally has been specifically designed to act as first base to this progression and to showcase young talent and offer crews, sponsors and motor manufacturers a high profile championship that is both commercially led and media oriented - an innovative new idea for British rallying. The Rally, which is supported by Macmillan Cancer Relief, is preceded on Friday evening (9th March) by The Rally Show at the Eagles Meadow Car Park where visitors will get the chance to meet the drivers and co-drivers before they embark on their gruelling driving challenge. The Rally Show will also incorporate music from local groups, a treasure hunt and stalls and displays from local artists and businesses and runs from 5.30pm-10.30pm a great time for families.
