David Higgins meanwhile didn't have a good event in the sister works Lancer - he was hampered with gearbox and brake problems and as a result came home a lowly 17th.
The F2 win went to Shaun Woffinden, who had a fairly lonely battle after Tom Metcalfe retired with a broken oil cooler early on and Andrew Leece had a power steering and oil pump failure in SS3.
In the Stars of the Future Championship James Wozencroft scored his fourth straight win from four events. The Suzuki driver started cautiously, but came under strong pressure right from the start from the Peugeot of Carwyn Harries. Thereafter the top twosome battled over mere seconds until the final stage when Harries' car almost drowned out in the ford. Fortunately the car spluttered out of the water, but the time loss amounted to over a minute before it dried off and fired cleanly on all four cylinders to reach the finish in fifth place. Gavin Bristow therefore snatched second place ahead of Robert Barrett and Matt Beebe.
The next event is the Manx International Rally, which runs from July 28-30.
