ITV F1 analyst, Tony Jardine ended day two of the Roger Albert Clark Rally Sunday second in class in his showroom specification Skoda Fabia.

Jardine and co-driver, Maurice Hamilton had to endure several tough stages in the heart of Cumbria and Southern Scotland to finish the second leg of the event, which last year forced the media duo to retire early.

Jardine, a firm supporter of the Roger Albert Clark, which is being held for the second year running and aims to revive the tradition of the classic R.A.C, commented: "In its second year this event has attracted more cars and more spectators than ever proving the popularity of the R.A.C Rally.

"At Greystokes, the first real forest run, Maurice called '800 as you see it', and all I could see was a throng of people lining the stage. That was also Maurice's first real test navigating off the maps through the forest and he did a really good job - it's not easy especially in the fog!

"Our Skoda Fabia hasn't missed a beat and has been terrific in all the different conditions."

Currently newly crowned, BRC champion, Mark Higgins leads the event overall, marginally ahead of Jeremy Easson and last year's winner Stig Blomqvist, the trio separated by just three seconds after seven stages.

The Roger Albert Clark Rally continues Monday, re-starting in Carlisle taking competitors towards more tough Scottish stages around Dumfries.

Jardine intends to have a crack at the class lead. "I think if we get some visibility on Monday we'll be able to take time out of the class leader, but whatever happens, we aim to thoroughly enjoy it," he added.

The event concludes on Tuesday.
