MSA British Rally Academy driver Chris Reid will contest his home event, the Multi Wage Granite City Rally this weekend for only the second time.

After a highly successful 2006 season where he dominated the highly competitive Peugeot 205 single make championship, Reid was left with no budget to compete in 2007.

"2006 could not have gone any better. After winning both drivers and fastest times championships, I was also one of the only drivers' in the UK to be invited to join the MSA British Rally Academy,” he noted.

“However, 2006 has left me with no budget to compete in any championship this year.”

Reid has now got his hands on a car though for this event and while he will again use a Peugeot 205, it will be a 1.6GTi, as opposed to the 1.9GTi he used last year. The only issue, the fact it has been in little pieces in a friend's workshop for the last two years.

"Christian Prynne has allowed free use of the car as long as I build it back up into a serviceable condition," Reid added.

Only being able to work on the car in the evenings after work, Reid has been burning the candle at both ends just to get it ready in time for this rally. It may seem a lot of effort just for 45 stage miles, however Reid insists it will all be worth it just to get behind the wheel again.

Furthermore despite not having driven competitively since early November in Holland, Reid is still expecting to be able to put in a strong performance.

"This is also a round of the ultra competitive Scottish Peugeot 205 championship and I hope to be setting top three stage times with the assistance of Matador Tyres," he summed-up.
