Marcel Freling and Karen Robinson once again showed the potential of the Ginetta G20 GTR rally car with a dominant class win on the recent Pro Art Signs Red Dragon Rally, winning every stage along the way.
The Ginetta, which is still very much a development project, experienced a clean run throughout the six stage rally, which was run on roads used on Wales Rally GB.
With recent suspension work done to the car Freling found new confidence in the Ginetta. After overnight rain made the stages exceptionally tricky he struggled with minor under steer initially, but after switching tyres around the Ginetta responded well and he was able to push harder, closing the gap to the more powerful machinery around him.
“We had a great run today, and I'm really happy with how our rally went,” he reflected. “We struggled with under steer in the opening stage, nothing major, just the conditions were really slippery.
“Once we had the right tyres on, the car handled really well and our stage times were great. To win our class and finish seventh overall in the 1400's is a brilliant result for the Ginetta.”
Not only has this result helped the Ginetta duo extend their class lead but it also moves Freling and Robinson into second position in the overall
Silverstone BTRDA 1400 standings as well.
Next up for the unique rear wheel drive rally car is the Dukeries Rally on June 16.
