Mitsubishi UK 'works' driver, Guy Wilks will be out to take his third BRC win of the season on the Philip White Tyres Ulster Rally this coming weekend, a result that would put him top in the standings regardless of how his rivals do.
Wilks currently trails Wyn Humphreys by 2 points in the race for the 2007 Tesco 99 Octane MSA British Rally Championship title and with two wins already to his credit, following victories on the Pirelli Rally and the more recent Rally Isle of Man, he is looking very good.
Indeed since the Manx, Wilks has done two events in the
FIA World Rally Championship, taking in the Rally Finland and the Rallye Deutschland in his privately entered Ford Focus WRC and as such is more than ‘match' fit.
“I'm really looking forward to getting back into the Mitsubishi,” said the Englishman. “After our performance on the Manx I have a lot of confidence in the car.
“Also if I include my recent WRC outing in Germany, I have covered a lot of miles on tarmac recently which can't be bad. It's also good to be challenging for a championship title.”
Despite Mitsubishi's recent success on the Isle of Man though, with Wilks leading home his team-mate, Gwyndaf Evans to give the Cirencester-based squad their first ever one-two, team boss, Paul Brigden has warned there is no room for complacency.
Indeed Wilks and Evans will face stiff competition, not least from the likes of Mark and David Higgins.
“There are no foregone conclusions in rallying, so it will be important for us to focus on achieving the best result we can for the team and not get distracted with other issues. This worked for us on the Isle of Man, so I don't see why it shouldn't in Ulster,” Brigden summed-up.
