Despite the issues with the gearbox though Humphreys managed to set some pretty good times on day 2 and he even posted some top ten times overall, beating many of his BRC rivals.
On stage ten however he pushed a bit too hard: “Just about a mile into the stage the car locked up on the way into a six right,” Wyn explained, “and we went straight through a hedge!
“We managed to reverse straight out and not loose too much time, luckily only sustaining superficial damage and startling a few spectators.”
In the end, Humphreys was relieved to get to finish and while he drops to second in the standings, sixth place in the BRC category keeps him well in touch, now just 3 points behind his team-mate, Mark Higgins, who took the win.
Wyn's focus now shifts to the Rally Yorkshire next month – and he will be after a good result, as the event will mark the end of his contract with Stobart Motorsport. As such he will want to do well to help secure a major sponsor for Wales Rally GB - the season finale - and 2008.
