“It was a shame Guy didn't finish because it would have been nice to compare some more times against him, but we had a good battle with Gwyndaf and we came away with a good victory, which we really did need.”
In the end Higgins beat Evans by more than 30 seconds, not that it was as easy a victory as that margin suggests.
“We were having a real, real close battle. We were doing times to exactly the same tenth of a second. He [Evans] would take a tenth and then I would take a couple of tenths back,” Mark added.
“We then had a really good run on the first stage on the second morning, which closed the gap to within 3 seconds and he then made a mistake on the next one, which cost him another 30 seconds.
“I think my lead at the end was 45 seconds, as we managed to take a bit more out of him, but it was very, very close.”
As for the next BRC round, the Rally Yorkshire, which takes place early next month, Mark reiterated that he has only one goal: “We have got to try and win the Trackrod. We have got to try and win every rally we do. Unfortunately of all the rallies in the BRC the Trackrod is probably the quickest one - there are a lot of straights and 90 degree junctions.
“But the package with the Subaru is very good. TEG Sport have worked very hard and I think the balance and handling is probably a better package that what the Mitsubishis have and again we do hopefully, touchwood, have reliability,” he summed-up.
