Rob Swann has confirmed that he definitely wants to compete in the Tesco 99 Octane MSA British Rally Championship again in 2008.
Swann took fifth place in the BRC category on the Ulster International Rally earlier this month, a result that moved the Revolution Wheels-backed man up to third place in the standings, just ahead of Mitsubishi 'works' drivers, Gwyndaf Evans and Guy Wilks and only 13 points off Wyn Humphreys, who is second.
Speaking exclusively to
Crash.net Radio prior to that event in Ireland, when asked about his plans for next season, he noted that while it isn't certain yet if he will remain in a Group N car, he very keen to stay in the BRC.
“We are already talking about next year and we would like to do the British Rally Championship again,” he noted. “Whether we can stay in a Group N car or not and try and run at the front we have got to wait and see.
“We are talking to some sponsors and there is a possibility of maybe doing a front-wheel drive car, but it is early days. We would however, certainly like to be in the BRC in 2008.”
Pressed on when something might be announced, he added that a decision should be made in the next few months: “Probably nearer to Rally GB - so sometime in November,” he added.
As for the next event, the Rally Yorkshire and the season ending, Wales Rally GB, Swann is feeling pretty bullish for both.
“We have done Rally Yorkshire a number of times and I am quite confident going up there,” he continued.
“As for Rally GB we always enjoy that. You have got the top drivers' in the world there and it gives you a bit of a boost. It feels a bit more like an endurance event, although you do tend to pick your pace up a little bit as well because of the nature of the event.
“Obviously it is a hard event, a long event and you need good reliability. But I am looking forward to both of those,” he summed-up.
