Ieuan Rowlands is to return to active competition on the Bulldog Rally this weekend, using the very same Geoff Jones Motorsport-run Subaru Impreza with which he ran as course car on the Plains Rally less than a month ago.
Rowlands, a carpenter by trade, has not competed regularly since clinching the runners-up spot in the 2004 Peugeot Supercup and his appearance on the Plains Rally was a toe in the water exercise to see how he adapted to a left hand drive 4 wheel drive turbo machine.
Although his times were not public knowledge, Rowlands is known to have been regularly inside the top-four in Group N throughout the day.
This result has seen the likeable Welshman team up once more with Emyr Hall in the Geoff Jones Motorsport hired Impreza as they tackle the national section of the Bulldog Rally this Saturday.
“The Plains was a great rally for me - a steep learning curve, adapting to a steering wheel on the wrong side of the car and all that extra horsepower too. But my times were encouraging,” he noted.
“Emyr and I have decided that, as we know these stages reasonably well, that the Bulldog would be the ideal next step as I look at my 2008 plans.
“Although I'd love to contest a championship in the Subaru it is all dependant on budget, so if we can get a good result this weekend then hopefully I can bring a sponsor on board for 2008.”
