Reigning British Rally Championship class R3 title-holder and
Crash.net columnist Matt Beebe has said that in his view the Tesco 99 Octane MSA British Rally Championship would definitely benefit from a few more rounds.
Currently the season is made up of six events - including the season ending Wales Rally GB, which is also the final round of the
FIA World Rally Championship and a double points' scoring affair for those registered for the BRC.
Speaking exclusively to
Crash.net Radio recently though, Matt said it would be good to have a few more events.
“I think there does need to be a few more events because for it to be the premier international British rally series for there only to be six rounds or seven rounds as it is with the double points on the Rally GB, isn't great. There does need to be more rounds,” he confirmed.
Asked how many he would like to see in the future, especially as the organisers are working to add an extra one for 2009, Beebe noted that ‘ten is a good number'.
“If you were running in a race series you would want to have ten weekends because then if you have a couple of bad weekends you have still got the others to make up for it,” he continued.
“Where as this year because there is only six events, if you have a couple of bad rallies than that is your championship gone because there is just not any time to claw back any ground lost.”
