With the Wales Rally GB - the final round of the 2007 Tesco 99 Octane MSA British Rally Championship, offering double points six drivers' remain in contention for the overall crown.

However, realistically the fight will be between season long protagonists Mark Higgins and Guy Wilks.

Every time Wilks has finished a rally he has topped the podium, whilst wins on both the Jim Clark and Ulster have kept Higgins, a triple British champion, in the thick of the title fight.

Others still in with a shot at the title are Gwyndaf Evans, in the second works Mitsubishi, early season leader and top rookie Wyn Humphries, 2007 Evo Challenge winner Phillip Morrow and the rapid Subaru pilot Rob Swann. However all of these competitors really have to hope that 'Lady Luck' does not look favourably on either of the top two.

The 2007 Wales Rally GB is unique amongst BRC rounds because the three-day rally is split into two points scoring rounds.

At the end of day one everyone who finishes will be awarded full rally points and the slates wiped clean, so days two and three are essentially a new rally.

This is great if you have a good run on Friday, but not so good if you damage your car irreparably and cannot return to the action on Saturday.

Both Higgins and Wilks have been keeping their hand in recently. Wilks finished an extremely impressive sixth overall on the inaugural Rally Ireland two weeks ago whilst Higgins, handicapped by a broken collar bone, was initially leading the PWRC when he punctured and then slid off the road.

With both men desperate to win the British Championship though they will surely be upping their game through the South Wales forests.

With Mark, a PWRC registrant, running in a favourable road position on Friday, Mitsubishi have entered both Wilks and his team-mate Evans as wildcard entries allowing them to score FIA Production Car World Championship points and therefore be seeded higher up the order.
