Wyn Humphreys was a newcomer to the BRC this season, but despite that he enjoyed a very good year, leading the standings at one point, before eventually finishing in fourth.
Crash.net Radio caught up with the Welshman recently to chat him about his year and lots, lots more...
Crash.net:
Wyn, this was your first season competing in the Tesco 99 Octane MSA British Rally Championship, were you pleased with your year?
Wyn Humphreys:
It was good, although it was quite a difficult. But like we said at the beginning of the season this was a learning year being as it was our first. On our first international rally together myself and Ally [Mackay – my co-driver] finished fourth and we finished fourth at the end of the year as well [on round 7 of the BRC, days 2 and 3 of the Wales Rally GB].
Crash.net:
In the end you classified fourth in the BRC standings, although you did actually lead at one point. Were you disappointed to drop down to P4?
WH:
We have had a few issues with the car. It was nothing we couldn't sort out, but it does cost you time and time is points at the end of the day. To be leading halfway through the year though was more through consistency than pace. However we weren't there to win this year. We were there to get the mileage for 2008.
Crash.net:
Have you enjoyed competing in the BRC and taking on the likes of Guy Wilks, Mark Higgins and Gwyndaf Evans?
WH:
Yeah, it has been a real learning curve for us this year. It was the first time for myself and Ally in the car, it was our first time doing the pace-notes and our first time doing all the events as well. It has been a good year.
Crash.net:
How tough did you find the season finale, the Wales Rally GB?
WH:
It was very difficult to be honest. The conditions were really poor. I spoke to a lot of people, like Phil Mills - Petter Solberg's co-driver - and he said: 'It was the worst conditions he has ever seen'. For us then running about 60 cars further down the field and with the mist, rain and everything you can think of, it was a tough rally.
