Welshpool based Zimbabwean Geoff Mayes is to make his British rally driving debut on February's JRS Winter Stages, and will be raising money for the Wales Air Ambulance along the way.
Mayes, who manages his own Motorsport P.R. firm, Geoff Mayes Media, will be co-driven by Machynlleth resident Will Owen in a Geoff Jones Motorsport-run Nissan Micra on the 45 mile rally.
Furthermore thanks to some very kind donations the pair have decided to support the Wales Air Ambulance by offering people the opportunity to sponsor them along the way.
"Although I have been involved in motorsport my entire life this is the first time I will actually compete on a rally on British soil," said Geoff. "A lot of people have offered their support, which is fantastic. I know how much effort the Wales Air Ambulance puts into rallying in the area, so I will be trying to raise as much cash as possible to help this worthy cause.
"My mates reckon I won't get very far so as a challenge to both them and myself I am asking people to sponsor Will and I £1 per mile that we complete, with all proceeds going to Wales Air Ambulance."
Mayes and Owen are being supported in this cause by Barclays Bank Plc, Dunlop Tyres, Richard Egger Insurance, Jardine Lloyd Thompson, Tesco 99/Greenergy, K-motion Tyres of Telford and Geoff Jones Motorsport.
The Telford Motorclub organised JRS Winter Stages are based in the Sweet Lamb Motorsport Complex near Llangurig and takes place on February 16.
