Rising rally talent Simon Harraway began his 2008 rallying season in earnest when he drove his new Mitsubishi Evo 9 to a fine fifth in class on last weekends Wyedean Forest Rally.
Harraway is contesting the Mitsubishi Evo Challenge this year and was just using the Wyedean Rally as an extended test. Not only that but he had a new co-driver, George Gwynn, for the weekend. As such the first couple of stages were tackled cautiously, but such is the talent of this young pairing that their cautious pace saw them return to the mid day service sixth in class.
With more confidence in each other and the car the pair upped their pace in the afternoon, improving their time through Serridge by 20 seconds on the second run. This increased pace was good enough to see the Regency Group backed Mitsubishi return to Chepstow 19th overall and fifth in Group N.
"This was a really, really good weekend!" he said. "I learnt a lot about the Evo today and am confident that there is more to come, performance wise, as I learn o get the most out of the car. This is a great start to 2008 and I'm really looking forward to the Sunseeker now."
Harraway will be back in action in two weeks time as he heads to Bournemouth for the Rallye Sunseeker, the opening round of the 2008 Mitsubishi Evo Challenge. He will be rejoined by regular co-driver Craig Drew for the event while Gwynn will be back alongside Nick Kenny this weekend as the pair aim to defend their 2007 win on the JRS Telford Winter Stages.
