Neville Jones returns to the Pine Lodge Maps MSA Welsh National Rally Championship this weekend when he flies back from holiday on the eve of the Red Dragon Rally and will begin the event with no prior testing and accompanied by a co-driver whom he has never met before!
Jones, who is backed by Vulcan Fasteners, is contesting both the BTRDA Rally Series and the Welsh National Championship on board a Geoff Jones Motorsport-run Subaru Impreza N10 but will have no time to prepare for the Red Dragon Rally as he only lands back in the country the day before the rally.
Only once he arrives in the Walters Arena complex to sign on at documentation will Jones get to meet his co-driver for the event, Ryland James.
"This is not the ideal preparation for a rally, but we booked the holiday months ago and could not cancel," he said. "I have great confidence in Geoff Jones Motorsport producing a perfect car and so although I'll be a bit rusty to begin with, it will at least give Ryland and I a chance to develop a working relationship before I am up to speed. I am really lucky to get someone with his level of experience to sit alongside me and am really looking forward to the event."
The 2008 Red Dragon Rally takes place on Saturday 5th April and features some of the more famous South Wales stages typically used on Wales Rally GB. With two runs through Walters Arena, which also houses both the rally HQ and the service park, the rally, which begins at 10:30am, is perfect for spectators
