David Meredith was relatively happy with his performance on the Border Counties Rally last weekend.
The rally was the second round of the 2008 Mitsubishi Evo Challenge and the Dolgellau based sheep farmer brought his Revolution Wheels backed Evo 9 home sixth amongst the registered contenders on his first trip to the event.
With competitors having to face not only the infamous Kielder Forest and its notorious ditches but also an assortment of weather conditions, ranging from bright sunshine to snow blizzards, Meredith and co-driver Dai Roberts were consistently inside the top ten in class throughout the day.
However the 2006 British ‘Stars of the Future' champion admitted to not being fully on the pace and attributed this to the lambing season back home in Wales.
“It's currently lambing time on our farm, so I've been up until all hours recently. It's not ideal preparation for a rally but you have got to do these things to allow you the budget to go rallying,” he explained.
“The car was faultless all day and apart from a minor overshoot at a chicane that someone else had already knocked over, we had a good clean run.
“The conditions were really changeable but I'm just pleased to have gotten through unscathed.”
Meredith and Roberts will now switch their focus to the season opener of the Tesco 99 Octane MSA British Rally Championship, the Pirelli International Rally, in two weeks time.
Meredith and Roberts are aiming to contest as many rounds of both the Mitsubishi Evo Challenge and the BRC as possible this year, but with a number of clashes later in the season a decision will be made at the end of May as to which championship to focus on.
