2004 British Rally champion David Higgins completed his first test with his new Subaru Impreza N14 recently.
The 35-year-old, who is running with his own team this year in the BRC, the newly formed FX Motor Sports squad, completed 70 miles of testing at the Higgins Forest Experience Rally School in Carno, Wales.
The TQ.com backed star declared himself happy with the results ahead of the opening round in the 2008 Tesco 99 Octane MSA British Rally Championship, the Pirelli International Rally, which starts this Friday.
"Although the conditions weren't ideal because of snow, we had a good run and learned a lot about the car," David explained. "It's a lot different to the previous Subaru.
"It feels a bit more like a Mitsubishi in terms of set up, but that is a benefit to us because we compete in a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9 in the Chinese Rally Championship, and we won every round of it last year."
David, who is FX's sporting director, will be joined on the events by his team-mate and sponsor, Hugh Evans, FX team principal. Nick Rowland is also apart of the FX team and he will take in the inaugural Suzuki Swift Sport Cup - which is part of the BRC. All three cars will be run from the team's new workshops at the rally school in Wales.
"We have the ability to do everything here," added David, who has an exclusive column on
Crash.net. "It's all done under our control, with a team of people we have put together ourselves who we really trust - that makes a big difference.
"My car's now been wrapped with the livery we'll use this year, and Hugh's will be wrapped this week. Then ahead of the rally we've got a day's testing for Hugh, and a day practicing changing parts for the FX team."
