One name missing from the list of finishers was that of Kenny McKinstry – the winner of the RBS International Rally on no less than five occasions was trailing Melvyn Evans by a handful of seconds throughout the event until his Impreza's engine cried enough with five stages still to run. McKinstry's pace over the closed public roads on the Isle of Man is legendary and, although he wasn't successful on this occasion, he will undoubtedly be back in 2009 to see if he can increase his tally of victories to six - and beyond.

This year's ‘Manx' attracted a top quality entry which numbered in excess of 125 and, true to form on what is traditionally a very tough event, the retirement list grew steadily throughout the weekend. In total, over 40 crews failed to complete the route and, in addition to McKinstry, top ten starters David Mann and Alun Cook (Subaru Impreza – fire) and Julian Reynolds and Patrick Walsh (Subaru Impreza – rear differential) were also unable to complete the route.
