A promising start to the season, a brand new car and his favourite event of the year will see Wolverhampton's Mark Gamble head to the Jim Clark International Rally full of optimism.

After leading the first round of the Tesco 99 octane MSA British Rally Championship, the Pirelli International, Gamble's confidence is on a high and he is now hoping he can follow it up with a win on this weekend's event.

"I didn't expect to be leading the Pirelli after the first few stages, everything was completely new to me in terms of the left hand drive Suzuki," he explained.

"Admittedly I was bitterly disappointed when we retired with fuel pump failure, but on reflection things started well, we've gained some championship points and now we need to build on that."

Another boost for Gamble was taking delivery of his own Suzuki Swift Sport car last Wednesday. The car had been on order with Monster Sport Europe but due to his late inclusion in the championship it wasn't ready for the opening round.

"I'm glad to finally get my car," he continued. "It'll stop me trying to open the drivers' door when I should be changing gear.

"Seriously though it did take me a couple of stages to get into a rhythm due to the left hand drive car, but with the high speeds of the tarmac stages on the Jim Clark we will need to be on the pace straight away."
