Silverstone Stars 1400 Rally champion Luke Pinder and co-driver Kim Baker head north this week in order to contest the second round of the Tesco 99 Octane MSA British Rally Championship, the Kelso-based
Jim Clark International Rally.
Following a challenging season opener on the Pirelli last month the Birkbeck Rallysport team have changed the RDL / Sintura-backed Puma into tarmac specification and tested extensively in order to obtain a suitable set-up for the very fast public tarmac roads.
"We had some new-car teething troubles on the Pirelli," said Pinder. "Having only driven the Puma very briefly before the start, we used the event as an extended test session.
"By the end we were setting competitive times in class but an early minor electrical gremlin forced us to use the SupeRally in order to finish the event.
"This time it will be different. We have dialled a suspension set-up into the car that I am really happy with. The car is as good as it can be!"
The Puma meanwhile has acquired several enhancements for the Jim Clark too including a 'flat shift' facility that allows the driver to keep his foot hard on the accelerator whilst changing up through the gearbox.
Improvements to the Puma's braking system will also make the car more user friendly and the car now also has a roof vent in order to keep the in-car temperature at an acceptable level.
