Neville Jones will reunite with long time friend and co-driver Ian Capewell for this weekends Mid Wales stages as he aims to gain experience of the forests ahead of his Wales Rally GB debut in December.
Two weeks ago Jones was tackling the sixth round of the BTRDA rally series; the Dukeries Rally with young George Gwynn calling the notes alongside him in the Vulcan Fasteners backed Subaru Impreza. The pair enjoyed a somewhat entertaining day out as Jones suffered two heart stopping moments when the badly rutted roads caused two high speed excursions into the undergrowth.
Now he will be hoping to avoid a repeat of those experiences as he returns to what he calls 'God's own land'...
"I love Wales, especially as it offers some of the best rally stages in the whole country," he said. "I've done the Mid Wales Stages before and love the stages. I am really looking forward to this weekend. As well as using Sweet Lamb, where I have tested at in the past, we also visit some of the forests that are not often used, and this is what I'm really looking forward to.
"It is also the home event for Geoff Jones Motorsport who do a brilliant job of looking after my car."
Using some of the classic Rally GB stages, which will once again be included in the route this year, the Mid Wales Stages sees crews tackle competitive tests in the likes of Myherin, Tarenig and Sweet Lamb.
The rally begins on Sunday morning from Newtown, and includes a central service area in the Sweet Lamb Rally Complex before returning to Newtown at around 3:30pm for the ceremonial finish.
