Aberdeen's Dave Weston led from start-to-finish on Saturday's RSAC Scottish Rally and now joins an elite group of drivers who have won the coveted event three times or more.

The former Scottish champion, previously a winner in 2001 and 2006, added his name to those of Hannu Mikkola, Roger Clark, David Llewellin and Jonny Milner.

"This win means a lot to me - the Scottish has always been one of my favourite events since I was a wee boy, and my earliest memories are of the guys whose records I've matched today," he reflected.

While Weston was aiming for an outright win in his Ford Focus WRC - unfettered by championship concerns this season - local star David Bogie was very much on a mission to score maximum SRC points.

After a difficult first half to the season, plagued by punctures and mechanical woes, Bogie knew he had to give it his all on his home event, if he was to have any chance of catching County Saab series leader Jimmy Girvan.

In the event, Bogie did just that at the wheel of his Toyota Corolla WRC, and if it had not been for a wrong tyre choice, might well have denied Weston his notable victory.

By the end of the fourth stage he was just two seconds adrift - but decided on too soft a tyre compound for the final two tests, allowing Weston to extend his lead and finish the day 15 seconds in front.

Nevertheless, Bogie was more than happy with his day's work, and was content with second: "An overall win wasn't my main concern," said Bogie. "I was out to get maximum championship points - and I've done that - it sets us up nicely for the next round, the Speyside."

Girvan, who took the final podium place and 28 championship points, was also well pleased with his performance at the wheel of his Subaru Impreza.

However, the Inverness man knows that with the championship decided on 6 out of 8 scores - and Bogie in full attack mode - he cannot miss a beat with just three rounds remaining.

Gretna's Mike Faulkner bounced back from a non-finish on the Jim Clark Reivers, to finish the day fourth overall in his Group A Mitsubishi Evo 6.
