Matt Edwards once again underlined his potential by taking a top ten overall result in his Kumho tyres backed, Geoff Jones Motorsport run-Subaru Impreza on last weekends Quinton Stages.
The Llandudno based rally driver, who only made the step up to 4 wheel drive machinery this year after winning the 2007 BTRDA class B8 championship, proved his worth during last weekends Llandovery based event, taking a string of top ten times through the notoriously wet and tricky mid-Wales stages.
Seeded at Car 46, Edwards, who was co-driven by the experienced John Roberts, suffered time loss on the longest stage of the day when he caught and had to pass a car mid stage.
Apart from that though, his rally was relatively uneventful as he drove well within himself, indicating that there is much more untapped potential in the youngster.
"Today's result hasn't really sunk in yet," said Edwards. "It's always felt like we were carrying a fair speed, but never like we were on the absolute edge so that's really promising.
"I'm still feel just at the teething stages with 4wd, but the confidence is building slowly and that's thanks in no small part to Kumho, GJM and my co-driver who's help has all been invaluable.
"I'm just hoping now we can come up with the funds to finish the year off and maintain and build on support for next years plans. I must say a huge thanks to everyone that has made this work so far this season."
By finishing tenth overall and second registered Production class driver Edwards has moved into a championship challenging position, with only Tristan Pye separating him from overall honours with three rounds still to go.
However Matt needs to find the budget to see out the rest of his season. To discuss sponsorship opportunities Edwards can be contacted by email: matthew_cambria@hotmail.com
