SD Roy hopes for a strong run on the Ulster Rally – despite it being a trip into the unknown.

Indian driver SD Roy is set to venture into the unknown when he contests next weekend's Ulster International Rally.

Roy has never competed on the Armagh-based tarmac event as he takes to the stages for round four of the British Rally Championship in his 1800cc MG ZR car, run by M3 Motorsport.

He will be reunited with regular co-driver Bob Stokoe for the rally after he missed the previous round, the Rally Isle of Man, as he was on holiday.

Roy and stand-in navigator Brad Magnus finished 31st overall and fifth in class R2 in round three despite enduring their fair share of problems which included completing the final five and a half stages in third gear.

Now he is aiming to claim a result on the 135-mile Ulster event and notch-up some more points in the championship.

“I don't have any idea about the stages at all,” Roy said. “I've heard they're technical and fast and I'm sure I'll learn more about them in the recce, which is going to be important for me.

“I'm looking forward to it. It'll be the first new event I've done in a while as I've competed on every other BRC round before, so there's going to be some learning involved.

“I've not really got any goals for the rally other than to go and have a play to learn the stages and get a good result. I've spent some more time in the car since the Isle of Man so I'm confident that I can go out there and do well.”

Roy heads into the Ulster International Rally in ninth place in the class R2 drivers' standings whilst Stokoe is eighth in the co-drivers' table.
