After the high-speed experience of Monza, World Series by Renault attention shifts to the altogether twistier confines of the Nürburgring this weekend, with Mikhail Aleshin and Salvador Duran out to prove that their Italian success was no fluke.
Points leader Alvaro Parente also heads straight to the Eifel Mountains from two days of testing at Magny-Cours, hoping to repeat of his achievements from last year, the Tech 1 driver taking a win in Germany for previous employer Victory Engineering. The Portuguese driver showed his affinity for the 'Ring during the World Series' previous visit to the circuit this season, when he took second fastest time in pre-season testing.
On that occasion, it was near namesake Alvaro Barba who set the pace for Draco Racing, with Aleshin pushing Parente all the way for second spot. While the Spaniard has yet to confirm his good off-season form, Parente and Aleshin lived up to expectations in Monza, although, after taking the win in race one, the Carlin driver missed out on completing a superb set of results when he retired from Sunday's event after attempting a somewhat optimistic move on team-mate
Sebastien Vettel. The points he would have scored for fourth place would have seen the Russian heading to Germany as championship leader....
That left the consistent Parente to bag the points and move to the top of the standings. After finishing fifth in the 2006 championship, the Portuguese driver is determined to make the title his this year, and Tech 1 appears to be responding, despite its own lack of experience in the series. Judging by their performance this week at Magny-Cours, both Parente and team-mate Julien Jousse can expect decent results this weekend.
