Apart from Kubica, two other drivers have caught the eye since the start of the season. Toccacelo and Montanari have each won a race apiece, showing great composure, but they currently lag a few points behind the Pole, having both had to retire from one of the three races to date.
Twice in the first three, Andreas Zuber (Carlin Motorsport) proved to be something of a revelation, but the F3 graduate blotted his copybook with a yellow flag infringement that saw him excluded from the Monaco race. The Austrian will now be looking to defend his second place in the points - which managed to remain intact despite his absence in the principality, from the likes of Jaap van Lagen and Tristan Gommendy, the two KTR drivers, Markus Winkelhock (Draco Multiracing USA), Simon Pagenaud (DHG Saulnier Racing) – who won in Valencia in last year’s FRenault Eurocup – and pre-season pacesetter Will Power (Carlin Motorsport).
Power, like a few others, will want to put a disappointing start to the season behind him, and will be joined in the 'determined to do well' camp by reigning FRV6 champion Giorgio Mondini (Eurointernational), Ryo Fukuda (DHG Saulnier Racing) and Colin Fleming (Jenzer Motorsport), who will all be looking to keep a cool head in the hot Valencia sun…
Once again, there will be a few changes evident on the entry for Valencia, topped by the return of Alx Danielsson at DAMS, the Swede having recovered from the ankle injury he suffered at Zolder. The name of his team-mate is among the question marks, however, with usual partner Pastor Maldonado having been suspended until the
Donington meeting in September owing to his accident under yellows in Monaco. Alex Lloyd, who stepped in for Danielsson last time out, is among the favourites to partner the Swede this weekend, provided he can get the sponsorship together.
