Having won the driver and team titles in Estoril,
Robert Kubica and his Epsilon Euskadi team head for the final meeting of the season in relaxed mood, but there will still be plenty at stake at Monza, as the three contenders for second place overall remain separated by just two points.
KTR's Tristan Gommendy heads Adrian Valles (Pons Racing) and Markus Winkelhock (Draco Multiracing USA) into battle at the historic Italian venue, providing the main source of interest at the last meeting of the year. The French and Spanish drivers have each won one race, whilst the German has two wins to his name, and it is Winkelhock who seems to be the most consistent as the season draws to a close, having finished in the points at each of the last five races.
The fight for fifth is also close, between Andreas Zuber (Carlin Motorsport) and Felix Porteiro (Epsilon Euskadi). However, having taken the opportunity to join Team Australia in the Champ Car World Series, Will Power will not be around to finish the World Series season with Carlin Motorsport, as he will be at Surfer's Paradise this weekend. Trevor Carlin has yet to decide who, if anyone, will take his place at Monza.
That is not the only uncertainty regarding the line-up this weekend, as Eurointernational, Victory Engineering, Cram Compétition and DAMS all have a drive available for the first practice sessions. However, another Brazilian, Carlos Iaconelli, already seen in Formula Renault Eurocup at the start of the year, will make his debut in the World Series, racing for the
Interwetten.com team alongside fellow Brazilian Fernando Rees.
