Guillaume Moreau claimed his first World Series by Renault pole position in qualifying for the sixth round of the season at the Hungaroring after dominant performance.
Also the first pole position of the season for the KTR team, Moreau was the only driver to dip below the 1min 33secs marker and in doing so managed to earn himself an additional four points for his troubles.
Making the most of racing in the quicker A Group, Moreau was almost half a second quicker than Filipe Albuquerque, who in turn guaranteed himself a spot on the second row of the grid with the second fastest time in the group.
Fastest in Group B, and therefore earning second on the grid, was Alvaro Barba, another driver to impress during the practice sessions, the Spaniard edging out Fairuz Fauzy, who will start in a season-best fourth for both himself and Cram Competition.
Third fastest in each group – and therefore claiming fifth and sixth on the overall grid – were Bertrand Baguette and Miguel Molina for KTR and Pons Racing, the duo also scoring a single point for themselves too under the World Series' qualification points' system.
Giedo van der Garde will start seventh in the leading Victory Engineering entry, ahead of Julien Jousse, who has given his Tech 1 Racing team some work to do after crashing towards the end of the session. Milos Pavlovic will start ninth ahead of Alvaro Parente, who in turn managed to get the better of title rival
Sebastian Vettel in eleventh position.
There was disappointment for Marco Bonanomi though, the Italian having shown speed good enough to see him at the head of the field through the weekend, only to spin off on his first qualifying lap and failing to set a time. With only 29-cars allowed to start the two races, the RC Motorsport driver will be forced to watch the two races from the sidelines.
