Ben Hanley's efforts to catch World Series by Renault pacesetter Alvaro Parente took a hit well after the second race at Magny-Cours on Sunday, when he was handed a time penalty for contact.
The 25-second punishment for causing a collision with Milos Pavlovic - not the first time the pair have come together this season - dropped the Prema Powerteam driver from seventh to 14th in the final results, costing him vital points after Parente claimed fourth place. As a result, a 15-point gap has opened up between the top two in the standings
Carlin Motorsport's Mikhail Aleshin was the main benefactor, moving up into the top ten and gaining an unexpected point.
