Carlin Motorsport will undergo its second World Series by Renault driver change of the season after signing Champ Car Atlantic driver Robert Wickens for the final two rounds of the season.
The Canadian was a standout in the Atlantic series this year, securing third place overall and being singled out as the ‘standout star for the future'.
With the Atlantic season long finished, the
Red Bull backed driver will now make his European racing debut at the upcoming Estoril round of the season as a replacement for Michael Ammermuller, who failed to impress the team enough to warrant him staying on longer than two rounds.
Joining regular driver Mikhail Aleshin in the team, team principal Trevor Carlin was pleased to welcome Wickens to the team and he hopes his inclusion will help the team recover for a disappointing spell that has seen them lose the top spot in the team standings.
"We welcome Robert to Carlin Motorsport, judging from his recent performances, I think he will be a great addition to the team,” Carlin, who started the season with Aleshin and
Sebastian Vettel.
“We will do our utmost to will give him the best possible car to make his transition to World Series as easy as possible. I'd also like to thank Michael [Ammermueller] for his contribution to Carlin over the last three rounds and wish him all the best for the future.
"Looking towards the next race, we will be aiming for podium finishes in Estoril. Magny Cours was our worst weekend of the season so far and we will be looking to get back on form and reclaim our lead in the team championship this weekend."
