Milos Pavlovic claims his second win of the season as Alvaro Parente nears the World Series by Renault title.

Milos Pavlovic made the most of the reverse grid system in the second World Series by Renault race of the weekend to score a comfortable victory at Estoril.

A second win of the season that adds to his first triumph at Spa-Francorchamps, the Serbian has endured a relatively inconsistent season, but nonetheless scored his fourth podium to move back up to third place in the standings.

A relatively uneventful race by World Series' often chaotic standards, Pavlovic – like race one winner Miguel Molina yesterday – lined up second on the grid but could not get the better of the pole sitter, this time Clivio Piccione, to snatch the lead into the first corner.

Nonetheless, Piccione and Pavlovic were the class of the field and simply pulled away from those behind. However, the Monegasque driver's hopes of scoring a maiden World Series win ended on lap 16 when Pavlovic finally made a move stick.

From there, the Draco Racing driver added seconds to his margin over remaining 11 laps to end the race more than five seconds up on Piccione. Still, the former GP2 Series driver will be pleased to have turned in his best result of a season that has shown race winning pace ruined by dismal luck.

Indeed, the reverse grid system worked well for several of the drivers who finished in the lower reaches of the top ten in the first race, the relative lack of overtaking opportunities keeping action to a minimum.

It meant, Fairuz Fauzy, who started third, finished in exactly the same position to record both his and Cram Competition's third podium of the year, although it took some rather robust defending by Piccione to keep the Malaysian driver behind him.

One of the bigger movers though was Giedo van der Garde, whose unfailing consistency saw him grab a second fourth place finish of the weekend. The Dutchman has been impressive for Victory Engineering this year, but while he has scored in ten races this season, he is yet to win a podium.
