Having been forced to give up on his title dreams in the first race, Ben Hanley ensured he would at least come away with the runners-up spot in the World Series by Renault standings after easing to victory in the final round of the season in Spain.

It was a difficult race for Hanley though as he had to recover from almost being involved in a collision at the start of the race to come back and deny a maiden victory for Bertrand Baguette.

Indeed, the start was almost a pivotal moment for Hanley and his attempts to hold onto a second place in the standings – a position he held by just a single point – as he was edged onto the grass by pole sitter Alejandro Nunez.

With the Comtec driver not giving an inch, Hanley was forced to back off, but Nunez's move did not benefit him totally as Baguette, starting third on the grid, instead swept round into the lead.

Getting a gap between himself and Nunez, Baguette was almost two seconds up on the Spaniard after just five laps, while Hanley crawled over the back of him as he bid to get pas. The Brit finally made a move stick on lap six and quickly hunted Baguette down in just four laps to battle his way past the Belgian down the main straight on lap ten.

From there, Hanley was lapping almost half a second a lap quicker than Baguette to cross the line ten seconds clear and celebrate his second victory of the season.

Baguette was a comfortable second to end his season on a high, the KTR driver scoring his best result of the season in the process.

Nunez held off pressure from Milos Pavlovic to score his second podium of the season, the Spaniard also giving outgoing champions Comtec Racing something to smile about at the end of what has been a frustrating year.

Pavlovic tried his best to take second in the standings off Hanley with fourth, but will have to settle for third overall, the Serb nonetheless finishing ahead of Filip Albuquerque, the Portuguese driver getting a good start before moving his way into the top five.
