Despite the season ending almost two months ago, the World Series by Renault standings have only just been confirmed following a protest lodged by one of the year's race winners.
Although Miguel Molina's post-Estoril appeal did not affect the outcome of the championship, in which Portugal Alvaro Parente beat Britain's Ben Hanley to give second year team Tech 1 its maiden title, it could have altered the positions further down the order. However, when the series tribunal decided to reject Molina's appeal, lodged with the FPAK, it also avoided a reshuffle.
Molina, meanwhile, was handed a penalty that will carry over into next season, and will be moved back ten places on the grid for the start of his next race in the series, as well as having to cough up a fine of €5,000.
Molina took his maiden race win in Portugal, but was blamed for causing an accident in the second event and given a ten-place grid penalty for the following weekend's season finale in Spain. However, with Pons Racing appealing the decision, Molina was able to qualify as normal under appeal, the teenager duly placing his car third on the grid and going on to win around his home circuit in Barcelona.
