Briton enjoys Spanish test.

James Walker has enjoyed his first taste of the new World Series by Renault car after travelling to Spain for a two-day test at Valencia.

The design of the new car is based on the 2007 Renault Formula One car, with a narrower chassis, an all-new aerodynamic configuration that includes new sidepods and front wing and a 24V V6 Renault engine delivering 500bhp.

Day one of the test started well, with Walker able to complete two good runs in the new car although high winds meant it was difficult for the former British F3 racer to get a feel for the new aerodynamics.

Those winds would lead to an incident just two hours into testing when a marquee on the top of the pit building came crashing down into the paddock, stopping running for the day. There were no serious injuries.

With a lot to get through on day two, the teams ran right through the lunch break but with only new car for each team, Walker ran solely in the afternoon as he worked on a programme evaluating different set-up options.

"We had a good test, once things got going," he said. "It was really a shakedown for us so we could get a feel for the new car and be ready to hit the ground running at the next test in Barcelona.

"The new car feels great and I'm really looking forward to getting stuck in now."
