Reigning Formula Renault UK Champion Duncan Tappy is to make his long awaited World Series by Renault debut at Silverstone are penning a deal to complete the season with RC Motorsport.
Swelling the British contingent to three ahead of the fourth round of the season, Tappy has spent much of the 2008 season on the sidelines are failing to gather the funding necessary to secure what was expected to be a drive at Fortec Motorsport.
Nonetheless, while it hasn't been confirmed who Tappy will be replacing, it is rumoured that Borja Garcia has run into financial difficulties.
Although one of several drivers to have graduated from the 2.0 Renault series, Tappy will nonetheless be the first driver to have made the leap directly from the UK championship this year. Nonetheless, the 23-year-old is excited about the challenges ahead.
“I'm ecstatic that we've managed to get a World Series drive sorted and to be with RC Motorsport is excellent,” said Tappy, who has made appearances in the Le Mans Series and Porsche Carerra Cup this year.
“They have a great history and I'm really looking forward to getting on the track at
Silverstone. The Grand Prix circuit is probably my all-time favourite track so there couldn't be a better place for me to start out. I'm very grateful to everyone that helped make this happen and I'll do my best and show what I can do.”
RC have endured a difficult start to the season thus far, with their best result being sixth in the opening round at Monza, courtesy of Garcia. Although Tappy's signing is likely to mean he will make up one half of an all-rookie pairing with Aleix Alcaraz, team boss Cristiano Giardina is satisfied that the Brit can overcome his lack of experience.
“When it became a possibility that Duncan would join the team I analysed his career and liked what I saw and I'm very happy to have him as a rookie with the team. I think it's an advantage for him starting at his home circuit that he knows well and will help with the pressure that comes with such a competitive series.
