Duncan Tappy climbs up to a 16th place finish after starting 24th on his World Series debut.

Duncan Tappy pronounced himself happy with his World Series by Renault debut at Silverstone after he battled his way up to a 16th place finish from 24th on the grid.

Heading into the weekend having never driven the latest 3.5-litre machine, Tappy made steady progress throughout practice and was rewarded with a solid race performance that placed him comfortably in the mid-field and ahead of more experienced counterparts.

Indeed, while the reigning Formula Renault UK Champion was not entirely satisfied with his qualifying form – or his start - Tappy was at least pleased to have made up several positions in the race.

“I am happy considering we started 24th,” he told Crash.net Radio. “I didn't have a great qualifying session because there was still plenty to sort out with the car and myself. But we made great progress in the race and if feel like we are in a really good position for the second race too.

“The only place where we could have made up more ground was at the start when I tried to go around the outside of Becketts but I was squeezed out onto the grass and I lost some places on the straight, Apart from that, the race went as well as we'd hoped.”

With a full race distance behind him, Tappy is confident he can build on that in the second event, not least because he will be starting further up the grid this time.

“A top ten is achievable and if I build on what I have learnt today, then that can be done. We need to make some improvements to the car too, but with those combined then we could be up there.”
